The LIMA ASIAN Licensing Awards are widely recognized as the highest level of achievement in the industry and is dedicated to identifying the outstanding achievements in the Asian licensing markets. Winners will be announced during the Hong Kong International Licensing Show at the Opening Night Cocktail Reception on January 7, 2019:

This year, we have received nominations from 11 countries for 11 award categories and the number of nominations has increased by 30%.  The award judging mechanism is composed of 2 stages. At stage 1, the Awards judging panel gathered in October to shortlist final nominees. The 5 nominations with the highest total scores from each category will enter stage 2 where they will be placed online for a ballot by worldwide licensing industry players. Each voter (by company) will vote for one nomination in each category.

Second Annual Licensing Expo China Almost Doubles In Size

Attendee and Exhibitor Growth Up, Floor Space Grew 72%

Shanghai, August 14, 2018Licensing Expo China, sponsored by the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA), kicked off at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai on July 25, 2018. The show facilitated connections between brand owners & agents, consumer product makers, licensees, and retailers across animation , art, entertainment, gaming, and non-profit and other influential categories. Nearly doubling the size of Licensing Expo China 2017, this year’s show hosted 123 exhibitors and 425 brands to bolster the rapid development of China’s growing licensing market. Attendance increased 46%, drawing over 14,000 attendees and attracting an additional 37,000+ attendees from co-located event, Children Baby Maternity Expo (CBME).

According to the latest 2018 Report of Global Licensing Survey released by LIMA, retail and related revenue generated globally by the trademark licensing business in 2017 rose 3.3% to 271.6 billion USD. China and Hong Kong also saw significant growth in the licensing market. This year, Licensing Expo China hosted popular entertainment and cartoon properties such as Angry Birds, Emoji, Pancoat, Paul Frank, PAW Patrol, Peppa Pig, Rilakkuma, Shaun the Sheep and a variety of properties including BBC Earth, British Museum, Caster, Produce 101, Song Yang Art, and The King’s Avatar, among others.

LIMA’s Annual Global Licensing Industry Survey Report is Now Available


New York, NY, July 26, 2018 – The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) has released the full findings of its Annual Global Licensing Industry Survey. The fourth annual survey provides in-depth analysis and detailed breakdowns of the US$271.6 billion global licensing industry – representing a 3.3% increase from the previous year, and overall growth for the third consecutive year. The report quantifies worldwide royalty revenue and corresponding retail sales by product category, property type and geographic region. It also covers the latest trends and offers forward-looking analysis and other features that capture the scale of licensing around the world. Topline results from the survey were released during the 2018 Licensing Expo. Character & Entertainment continues to be the top property type, accounting for $121.53 billion in retail sales, a 44.7% share of the market. Corporate Trademarks follow in second place with $55.77 billion in retail sales for a 20.5% share of the total.

Apparel led all product categories with $40.67 billion in revenue, which accounts for 15% of total global licensed retail sales, followed by Toys at $36.12 billion (13.3% share), and Fashion Accessories at $31.04 billion (11.4% share).

In addition, the U.S./Canada remains the largest global region for licensed merchandise, with retail sales growing to $157.66 billion last year garnering a 58% market share. The strongest growth came from North Asia (up 6.2% to $26.05B) from China/HK and Japan, and Latin America (up 7.6% to $10.72B), led by Brazil. Business in the Middle East/Africa region grew at an above average rate of 4.0% with two countries from this region – Nigeria and Egypt – cracking the top 50 for the first time.
